RHINELANDER - People count on nurses to provide quality healthcare to themselves and their loved ones. A nationwide shortage of nurses hits harder in rural areas like the Northwoods.

Nurse practitioner Tiffany Miller loves working in Rhinelander, but she says most nurses want to land a job in a bigger city.

"It has to be the right fit, and people have to truly enjoy the Northwoods to want to come up here and work," said Miller.

ONEIDA COUNTY - A former janitor at an Oneida Co. charter school will be 106-year-old when he's served his sentence for child sexual assault, child enticement and false imprisonment.

A jury found Stavros Iliopoulos guilty on all three counts in September.

Iliopoulos, who students knew as Mr. Steve, was arrested last November after a 5th grade student claimed Iliopoulos pulled or pushed her into a custodial closet and touched her inappropriately.

At a sentencing hearing Friday, Judge Michael Bloom made it clear there was no sign of any other assault on Iliopoulos' record.

"There's no evidence that the defendant has perpetrated anything upon another person like the victim in this case," said Bloom.

Iliopoulos was sentenced to 14 years initial incarceration and 16 years extended supervision for child sexual assault. He will serve that sentence concurrently with a 3-year sentence for false imprisonment. One year of that sentence will be served in prison. Iliopoulos will also serve 3 years in prison and 4 years under extended supervision for child enticement.

The Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport uses a special material that helps with the snow.
"Airfield monitoring I think is a lot more intense because we're constantly monitoring the conditions in the winter time and reporting them," said Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport Director Matthew Leitner. "Of course removing snow and other contaminants from the surfaces."

The airport cannot use normal salt on the runway, but they do have other tools to get the job done.

LAC DU FLAMBEAU - Elders from 12 different tribes across the state gathered in Lac Du Flambeau on Friday for The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC) meeting.

The event educates the federal funding the council receives to take care of their elders.

The tribal president of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Joseph Wildcat Sr., said this serves as a safety net.

"It's a great program that we tribal elders can count on to have some assistance," said Wildcat Sr.

Speakers at the event emphasized how the younger generation should take care of their elders.
