WILLIAMSPORT – A Williamsport man has admitted sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl who later tested positive for gonorrhea.

That testimony from Williamsport police Agent Jason Bolt on Tuesday was sufficient for District Judge Christian D. Frey to hold Daniel Prieto, 38, for court.

Prieto is charged with rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and corruption of minors.

Bolt testified in a preliminary hearing conducted by Zoom that Prieto initially denied having sexual contact with the girl but confessed in a May 21 recorded interview.

Police initiated their investigation on Feb. 8 when they responded to a report of a missing juvenile who was found 90 minutes later.

The mother, while accompanying her daughter for an interview, revealed she discovered in early February she had contacted gonorrhea and her daughter had tested positive for the same disease, Bolt said. Tests confirmed that, he said.

The victim, during a child advocacy center interview, said Prieto told her “to keep a secret” and he would be in trouble if she told, charging documents state.

Prieto has been held without bail as a danger to the community since he was arrested in May 21.

Frey denied a defense motion to set bail with the stipulation Prieto have no contact with the victim.

It would be too big a risk to release him, Lycoming County Assistant District Attorney Lee A. Fry argued.
